Our first family photos are officially in the books! We had newborn photos done when Cooper was first born, but this year really felt like the first official annual family photos and I had so much fun planning it! When it came time to decide where we would do our family photos, I knew I wanted something a little different. Instead of heading to a field or a park, we grabbed some ice cream at Igloo Frozen Custard in Lafayette, Indiana—and honestly? I wouldn’t change a thing about it.

Ice cream has always been a sweet part of our lives (pun definitely intended). Whether it was a spontaneous late-night drive while dating, treating ourselves on a random Tuesday, or always offering ice cream when we have guests over, it’s something seemingly so small, but meaningful in our family rhythm. So when it came time to document this season—and our Cooper who is almost one year old!—I wanted our photos to feel like us.

Maddie, a good friend and fellow photographer, captured the session for us, and I took care of editing afterward. It felt like such a fun collaboration and made the process that much more special. We didn’t do anything fancy—just ordered some ice cream, sat on the benches, and let our evening unfold. There’s something about these precious photos of sticky fingers, messy cones, and big laughs that makes me tear up in the best way.

If you’re local to Lafayette or West Lafayette, Indiana and looking for a creative, real-life location for your family photos, I can’t recommend Igloo enough. It’s iconic, colorful, and perfect for anyone who wants their session to feel joyful and real. Plus, you get to eat dessert in the process—hard to beat that!

This session was about us: the season we’re in, the joy we’re holding, and the things that are part of our everyday life. I'm so excited to share this with you! Scroll through some of my favorite moments below—sticky hands and all.
