Mother’s Day Reflections From Behind (and In Front of) the Camera

This Mother’s Day, I did something a little out of the ordinary for me — I got in front of the camera.

As a photographer, I’m usually the one capturing everyone else’s love stories, milestones, and tender in-between moments. But this time, it was me and my son. My husband, Connor, picked up the camera, and I edited the images — and I can honestly say they’re some of the most meaningful photos I’ve ever had.

Because here's the truth: moms deserve to be seen.

We’re in so many memories — the bedtime routines, the scraped knees, the silly dances in the kitchen — but we’re often not in the photos. We're behind the scenes, making the magic happen, and somehow forgetting that we are part of the story too.

These photos reminded me of something powerful:

That our kids will want to remember what we looked like while we were loving them.

Not just how we decorated the nursery or what brand of stroller we used — but us, present, smiling, loving, real.

Photos like these aren't just for our own keepsakes. They're a gift to our children. A way of saying:

"I was there. I loved you. I held you. I laughed with you. I was so proud to be your mom."

And years from now, when the baby curls are gone and the toys are boxed away, these images will speak louder than any words.

Why You Should Get in the Frame

If you’re a mom reading this and thinking,

“I need to lose the baby weight first” or “I’m not photogenic” —

let me lovingly stop you right there.

You are exactly as you should be to be remembered.

Your children won’t care if your hair was messy or if you wore your favorite yoga pants.

They will care that you were with them.

As a photographer, I’m passionate about helping families capture these fleeting, beautiful seasons of life. Whether it’s a Mommy & Me session, a newborn shoot, or just a slow Tuesday evening in the backyard — those are the moments that matter. And those are the moments I want to preserve for you.

Let's Tell Your Story

If this Mother’s Day stirred something in you — a desire to be in the frame, to preserve this season — let’s create something beautiful together.

I’d be honored to help you document the love you and your children share, just as I was able to do with mine.

Because time doesn’t slow down — but a photograph can hold onto it, just a little longer.
